W.H. Franklyn, commission agent, underwriter and auctioneer, later newspaper editor, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1850. He was the editor, printer and publisher of the Victoria Daily Advertiser and Shipping List in 1850. Queen's Road was listed as his address between 1846 and 1850.
Two individuals and two firms were listed as underwriters and general auctioneers in the 1850 Hong Kong Almanack and Directory, arranged according to priority of license. They were: John Currie, W. H. Franklyn, Smith & Brimelow and McEwen & Co.
