Tarrant, William

William Tarrant, civil servant, later newspaper publisher, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1850. He worked for the Surveyor General's Office as the Clerk of (Deed) Registry Office and Keeper of Leases and Records in 1846. He and John Pope were Joint Assessors and Collectors of Police Rate in 1846. He was the editor, printer and publisher of The Friend of China in 1850. He was a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850. West Point was listed as his address in 1850.
