John Cairns, newspaper publisher, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1843 to 1850. He succeeded John Slade as the editor, printer and publisher of Hong Kong Register 香港紀錄報 in 1843. He remained in that position until 1849. Hong Kong Register had a new owner by 1949, the Scottish mariner Robert Strachan, captain of the merchantman Scotland. It also had a new editor, William Henry Mitchell. Cairns was a council of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850. Queen's Road was listed as his address in 1846.
